Reporting time pay
What does “reporting time pay” mean?
Reporting time pay is compensation owed when an employee reports for a scheduled shift but is given less than half of it, or no work at all.
It exists so that scheduling risk sits with the employer rather than the employee. Someone who arranges their day around a shift is owed something for showing up even if the work is not there.
It commonly arises in retail, hospitality and any business with call-in scheduling, and it is frequently missed because payroll never sees that the shift was cut short.
