Termination

What does “termination” mean?

Termination is the employer-initiated end of the employment relationship, and in California it carries immediate obligations around final pay, benefits notice and records.

The decision and its administration are separate problems that arrive at the same moment. Final wages are typically due at the time of discharge, and notices have their own timing.

Most of what makes a termination expensive is visible before it happens: a recent complaint, an unresolved leave request, or a performance record that says something different from the stated reason.
