Wage statement

What does “wage statement” mean?

A wage statement is the itemized paystub a California employer must provide each pay period, and the Labor Code prescribes exactly what it has to show.

Required items include gross and net wages, hours worked and applicable rates, the pay period dates, the employee's name and identifying information, and the legal name and address of the employer.

Wage statement claims are common precisely because they are objective. The document either carries the required items or it does not, and no factual dispute about what happened at work is needed.
